Razavi Khorasan province has huge iron ore reserves and this issue as an important competitive advantage led to the idea of forming and developing the steel chain in this province. Khorasan Steel Complex Co is one of the oldest and most renowned steel companies in Iran. Investigating, studying and conducting field research in Razavi Khorasan province for locating and establishing this steel complex goes back to 1990s. After building the complex, providing the necessary equipment and infrastructure and preliminary tests, finally, in 1999, the rolling unit of this company started its activity with the capacity of producing 550 thousand tons of construction light sections as the first steelmaking unit in the east of the country. After the official operation of the Khorasan Steel Complex Co, the necessary planning for the implementation of development plans was put on the agenda in order to improve the share of this company in Iran's steel industry by making maximum use of the competitive advantage of access to iron ore reserves. Based on this, all the development projects of Khorasan Steel Complex Co are defined and implemented from the beginning until today in order to benefit from this competitive advantage. This approach has made this company one of the most complete industrial complexes in Iran. Khorasan Steel Complex Co started its activity with the production of light construction sections, and then due to the necessity of development, the projects of construction of smelting and casting unit, direct reduced iron and pelletizing were launched one by one. Currently, this company by having a large part of the value chain, has created an annual production capacity of 1.6 million tons of sponge iron in direct reduced modules with a capacity of 800 thousand tons each, 2.5 million tons of pellets and 1.4 million tons of billet ingots. Khorasan Steel Complex Co has not stopped development here and has many plans for the development of its business.
